Sclerotherapy

For treatment of Spider & Varicose Veins

What is sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that treats varicose veins and spider veins. It involves an injection of a solution directly into the vein. The solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to collapse and stick together. The closed vein is naturally absorbed back into the surrounding tissue.

What happens during sclerotherapy?

During sclerotherapy, you lay down on your back on a treatment table with your legs slightly elevated. The doctor then inserts a very fine needle filled with solution into the treated vein. At this point, you may experience mild discomfort and cramping for one to two minutes, especially when larger veins are injected. This solution causes the lining of the vein to swell shut and block the flow of blood, then causing it to close and disappear from view. The closed vein is naturally absorbed back into the surrounding tissue.

What can I expect after sclerotherapy?
